This two-and-a-half-minute, high-definition video describes the Southeast Asia Shrimp Aquaculture Improvement Protocol (SEASAIP), a program designed to provide tools to help farmers produce sustainable shrimp and build direct relationships with buyers. It uses Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch Program (USA) to build a ladder of improvements from “Avoid” (red) to “Best Choice” (green) products. SEASAIP combines its existing standards with elements of the Seafood Watch’s standards on human rights abuses. Pinyo Kiatpinyo with the Federation of Shrimp Cooperative of Thailand says he chose SEASAIP because it designs protocols that meet the demand of his buyers.
